The Work of a Human Being
In the morning when you rise unwillingly, let this thought be present: I am rising to the work of a human being. Why then am I dissatisfied if I am going to do the things for which I exist, and for which I was brought into the world?
— Marcus Aurelius, Meditations 5.1
That alarm clock, the cold floor, the heavy barbell — these are not burdens, but invitations. Marcus Aurelius reminds us that our very nature calls us to action, to engage with the world and fulfill our purpose. To resist is to deny the core of who we are, like a bird refusing to fly or a fish declining to swim.
You weren't made to stay comfortable. You were made to exert, to challenge, to grow. So, when the discomfort arises, see it for what it is: a signal that you are aligning with your true self, doing the work you were designed to do.
Today's challenge: Today, when you face a task you'd rather avoid, remind yourself: this is the work of a human being, and you are here to do it.
