The Indolence of the Soul

The Indolence of the Soul
Flee sloth; for the indolence of the soul is the decay of the body.
— Cato the Younger
Cato's stark warning cuts straight to the core of our daily choices. It's easy to see physical sloth – skipping a workout, hitting snooze – as the primary enemy. But the real decay starts deeper, in the mind. When we allow our minds to be soft, to avoid difficult thoughts, or to procrastinate on what we know is right, that mental laxity inevitably spills over, weakening our resolve and our physical capacity.
This isn't about guilt; it's about clarity. Every time you push through a tough set, or choose the harder path outside the gym, you're not just building muscle. You're fortifying your soul against indolence. You're training your mind to confront discomfort, to embrace effort, and to demand more of yourself. This is the true work, and it's what makes you stronger, inside and out.
Today's challenge: Today, identify one small task you've been mentally avoiding, whether it's a difficult conversation or an unpopular movement in the WOD, and tackle it first.
