Progress, Not Perfection
We often beat ourselves up when a lift isn't perfect, or a WOD time isn't what we hoped.
Progress, Not Perfection
Do not be disturbed by anything that happens, but rather by your judgments about it. And do not let them be erased from your mind. For if you do, your progress will be lost.
— Epictetus, Discourses 3.3.18
We often beat ourselves up when a lift isn't perfect, or a WOD time isn't what we hoped. Our judgment of the outcome, not the outcome itself, is what truly bothers us. This self-criticism can be a silent killer of motivation, making us question our effort and worth.
But progress is rarely linear. Every rep, every workout, is a chance to learn and improve, even if it feels like a step back. Focus on the effort and the lessons, not just the score. Your consistent effort is what builds true strength and resilience, so don't let a bad day erase the progress you've made.
Today's challenge: Today, after a challenging moment in the gym, pause and acknowledge the effort you put in, regardless of the outcome, before moving on.
