Focus On What You Control

That feeling when the barbell feels heavier than yesterday, or the WOD just isn't clicking?

Focus On What You Control

Some things are in our control and others are not. Things in our control are opinion, pursuit, desire, aversion, and, in a word, whatever are our own actions. Things not in our control are body, property, reputation, command, and, in one word, whatever are not our own actions.

— Epictetus, Enchiridion 1

That feeling when the barbell feels heavier than yesterday, or the WOD just isn't clicking? It's easy to get frustrated by what your body is doing, or what the clock says. But those are external results, not entirely within your immediate grasp.

What you can control is your effort, your focus, your attitude, and your commitment to the movement. Shift your attention to these internal actions. That's where your power lies, and where true progress begins.

Today's challenge: Today, when something feels hard, identify one thing you can control in that moment and direct all your energy there.
