Focus On What Matters
Do not waste what is left of your life in unnecessary thoughts, about others, unless in relation to some mutual benefit.
— Marcus Aurelius, Meditations 3.4
We waste an immense amount of mental energy standing on the gym floor worrying about how our lift looks compared to the person next to us. We calculate everyone else's score, judge their pacing, and wonder if our weight is impressive enough. The bar does not care what anyone else is doing. It only responds to the force you apply to it.
Stoicism strips away the noise of external comparison. When you step up to the barbell today, clear your head of the spectators, real or imagined. Focus entirely on your own mechanics, your own breathing, and the single rep in front of you.
Today's challenge: Keep your eyes on your own lane during the workout today and refuse to check anyone else's whiteboard score.
Workout of the Day
WOD coming soon — check the whiteboard at the gym this morning, or grab the day's class plan from your coach.
