Built Through Opposition
Difficulties are things that show what people are. Therefore, when a difficulty falls upon you, remember that God, like a physical trainer, has matched you with a rough antagonist.
— Epictetus, Discourses 1.24.1
A barbell never gets lighter; you simply get capable under heavy loads. Epictetus points out that life operates the exact same way. Obstacles aren't interruptions to your peace; they are the sparring partners required to build actual resilience. If everything came easy, you would remain soft.
When the barbell feels heavier than usual or the afternoon workload piles up, stop groaning about the friction. That resistance is precisely what forces adaptation. Next time you hit a wall, thank the antagonist and push through it.
Today's challenge: Do not complain about the hardest part of today's WOD — lean directly into it without dropping your grip.
