Q: HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN DOING CROSSFIT? WHO OR WHAT GOT YOU STARTED?
A: It will be 5 years in August. I started crossfit because I couldn’t motivate myself to workout at the gym by myself. I was also really bored doing the same thing day in and day out.
Q: TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOURSELF: (FAMILY, CAREER, HOBBIES, INTERESTS)
A: My wife and I just had our third child, a baby girl. We have a 4 year old, 2 year old, and a two week old. My family and I enjoy camping and we go to the lake every weekend in the summer to waterski, surf, and wakeboard. I also play ice hockey and coach youth ice hockey.
Q: WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MEMORY AT ALPINE CROSSFIT?
A: There have been a lot so it is really hard to narrow it down to just one. I think the first year that I participated in Devito Strong was one of my favorite memories. Obviously it was a very somber day, but the company was what made it special.
Q: WHAT WAS YOUR WORKOUT REGIMEN BEFORE JOINING ALPINE?
A: I used to go to the gym 4-5 times a week. I would lift for an hour (no Olympic lifts, back squat, deadlift, etc.) and run for 20-40 minutes. It really sucked.
Q: HOW HAS CROSSFIT AFFECTED YOUR LIFE OUTSIDE OF THE GYM?
A: A ton. I’ve changed the way I eat which has had a huge impact, but the relationships I have with everyone at the gym is probably the biggest impact. Crossfit is really a community.
Q: IF YOU COULD WRITE A BOOK, WHAT WOULD IT BE ABOUT?
A: My inability to take direction! I’m working on it, but I tend to take direction poorly.
Q: WHAT CATEGORY WOULD YOU BE LEAST EXCITED/MOST EXCITED TO SEE ON JEOPARDY?
A: Sports. Any sports category.
Q: WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST WORKOUT, AND WHAT DID YOU THINK AFTER DOING IT?
A: I will never forget my first workout. It was 70 wall balls, 60 pull ups, and 50 slam balls for time. I sucked. I had to do ring rows for the pull ups and I literally finished dead last. The whole class was literally done and cheering me on.
Q: WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE AND LEAST FAVORITE WOD?
A: My favorite WOD is probably DT or Cindy. I hate Diane because I struggle so much with the HSPU.
Q: WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE AND LEAST FAVORITE MOVEMENTS?
A: I love anything where we move heavy weight. Cleans are probably my all time favorite. I hate bar facing burpees. Hate them.
Q: WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE A NEWBIE JUST GETTING STARTED AT ALPINE CROSSFIT?
A: Be humble. You’re not going to jump in and be good at everything. You’ll have your strengths and your weaknesses. Stick with it and expand on your strengths while continuing to work at your weaknesses.
