Chilean fever! Day 2 9-25-2011

Chilean fever! Day 2 9-25-2011

Whats up ski monkeys and CrossFit freakshows!
First full day here was pretty rad!  Day started with an early breakfast and on the hill at 7:30am.  Downhill training was the priority today with a couple runs of giant slalom (GS) after.  Then lunch, athlete video analysis (from the morning training), dryland, team meeting and dinner.  The afternoon schedule is pretty consistent each day.  In the afternoon, athletes get some time to relax and work with the PT’s and discuss the morning with their coaches.
My Dad and I helped slip the race line between racers and hung out a little and just watched some badass skiing.  The downhill is pretty gnarly here.  Great training for all conditions on the World Cup for sure!  Big airs, HUGE terrain changes, compressions, rutted/bumped out lines, mad steeps, and gliding flats.  It was a bummer they didn’t get it last season (last season’s Portillo trip was canceled).  These guys are skiing great now and coaches seemed pumped for sure.  I think they’re going to have some great results at those early season speed events!  Birds of Prey in December at Beaver Creek will be a good one to watch. I took a lot of video on the course today which will be updated soon.
Video from day #2 HERE (pending…keep checking back…sorry these CRAZY LONG 5min videos take their sweet time to load on YouTube)
Tomorrow I am planning to run full length giant slalom with the Team.  Uber pumped!  Really looking forward to getting phenomenal coaching and just trying to run the same line as our World Class athletes.  Not to mention, the BEST GS skier (for 3 years now) in Ted Ligety.  Really can’t wait to try to follow their lines they set before me.  I will do my best to stay within 10sec per run of Ted!!!
Plan is 9:00am start for GS and 8:30am start for the downhillers.  Most likely the DH’ers will get a few solid runs in and then head over to hit GS around 10:30am.  These guys are amazing athletes and it has been incredible to be in their presence!

Need to crash now but will post more tomorrow.  Have a great Monday everyone!  Thanks for checking in.  We are having a blast thanks to NASTAR and NATURE VALLEY!

Thanks for the note Peter. I’ll keep knocking out the family members if I’m awarded more trips haha. My Dad and I are having a great time. Its especially been fun for him to be around the athletes and a part of the Team for a week.
Is Scott an athlete? I don’t think he is here on this trip. Its mostly speed and some tech athletes.

  1. These videos are incredible! What an amazing trip of a lifetime (that you obviously will be taking every year!!!) that you get to share with your Dad! We’re missing you here in A-town!
