Q: HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN DOING CROSSFIT? WHO OR WHAT GOT YOU STARTED?
A: I was doing CrossFit on my own (WODs written by my husband) for about 2 years before starting at Alpine 6ish months ago.
Q: TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOURSELF: (FAMILY, CAREER, HOBBIES, INTERESTS)
A: I am a first-year PT student. I love to sing, get outside in the sunshine, try new restaurants, and pet dogs!
Q: WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MEMORY AT ALPINE CROSSFIT?
A: Not long ago, we were finishing up our accessory work after a grueling WOD on a hot Saturday when Austin played Shania Twain’s “I Feel Like a Woman” and everyone joined in singing at the top of the lungs. This moment just represented how sweet it feels to be a part of a goofy, fun loving community of people who push me but also help me relax a little when it matters!
Q: WHAT WAS YOUR WORKOUT REGIMEN BEFORE JOINING ALPINE?
A: I was spending 2-3 hours trying to cram in olympic lifts, powerlifting movements, and body building into evening gym sessions. Although I still try and get a few lifts in before and after class, I think coming to Alpine (and being a grad student) has helped me find a little more balance in my routine.
Q: HOW HAS CROSSFIT AFFECTED YOUR LIFE OUTSIDE OF THE GYM?
A: I think I’ve begun to realize how much I need a tight knit community and how much I enjoy being able to support and love on other people in all seasons of life because that is what the CrossFit community does for me!
Q: IF YOU COULD WRITE A BOOK, WHAT WOULD IT BE ABOUT?
A: Dogs and Peanut butter. I love both equally.
Q: WHAT CATEGORY WOULD YOU BE LEAST EXCITED/MOST EXCITED TO SEE ON JEOPARDY?
A: Least excited to see: geography. I probably couldn’t label all the states on a map right now if I had to, BUT I do know all the muscles of the body? Sooo give me anatomy for 500!!!
Q: WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST WORKOUT, AND WHAT DID YOU THINK AFTER DOING IT?
A: Ooof, I can’t remember back to my first ever CrossFit WOD but my first workout at Alpine was a partner WOD with my homegirl (and inspiration) Ali Thomason. We had pullups, DB cleans, and HSPUs I think and I just remember being so grateful to have her and the Alpine staff pushing and coaching me. After that, I was hooked!
Q: WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE AND LEAST FAVORITE WOD?
A: I’m not quite experienced enough to be really familiar with the Hero WODs or named workouts, but my favorite WODs usually involve a heavy barbell and some built in rest 🙂 least fav…probably anything that involves more than 10 thrusters.
Q: WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE AND LEAST FAVORITE MOVEMENTS?
A: Favorite movement right now is probably cleans with least favorite being thrusters.
Q: WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE A NEWBIE JUST GETTING STARTED AT ALPINE CROSSFIT?
A: Drop the comparison game, if you’re showing up and sweating, you’re doing it right.
